Totalitarianism is a political system in which the government has complete control over people’s lives. It limits freedom of speech, the press, religion, and political opposition. Citizens are often watched through strict surveillance, and anyone who disagrees with the government may face punishment. Totalitarian leaders use propaganda to influence public opinion and maintain power. Historical examples include Nazi Germany under Hitler and the Soviet Union under Stalin. Such governments discourage independent thinking and human rights. Totalitarianism can create fear, silence, and oppression, making it difficult for people to live freely and express their own opinions.
