Our perspectives on things may differ from person to another. Some see dealing with people as an art, and it may indeed be an art that few master.
But for me, I see it as much simpler than that label suggests, perhaps because I allow my feelings to guide me without constraints, especially since I know my boundaries and my unwavering, instinctive principles that neither heart, mind, nor conscience can transgress.
I act directly from the heart, even if I’m unsure whether it’s right or wrong, but I always see great results because what comes sincerely from the heart reaches the heart directly. Therefore, I’m certain the heart rarely errs.
Undoubtedly, moderation is good in all things, so dealing with both heart and mind is best; neither can do without the other. We thank God for the blessing of reason, which illuminates our insight and guides us like a compass, determining our direction.
The best course is moderation. If we imagined life with reason alone, devoid of emotion, we would find it harsh and unfeeling, lacking empathy and compassion for others.
Conversely, if we imagined life with emotion alone, devoid of reason—despite the heart’s beauty—life would proceed without logic or distinction between right and wrong.
The beauty of the equation between the mind and the heart is achieved by their meeting at a common point, which is the conscience, because it is a common element between the two, and the most important element in life. If it weren’t for the conscience, the voice of truth would die, and how can life and nations rise up when the voice of their conscience is dead?
Therefore, to achieve integration, both the mind and the heart must work together, producing the most beautiful image that combines a balanced mind, a conscious heart, a living conscience, and a well-adjusted human being.
