They met on a rainy afternoon, both reaching for the same umbrella at the café counter. She laughed, he smiled, and in that instant, two lonely lives found warmth. Their days became chapters of joy: long walks under fading sunsets, whispered promises in the quiet of night, and the comfort of knowing someone finally understood.
But time has a cruel way of unraveling what feels eternal. His job called him overseas, and distance stretched their hearts thin. At first, love survived through messages and midnight calls, but silence slowly replaced words. She waited at train stations, replaying his last promise: “I’ll come back for you.”
Years passed. One morning, she found a wedding announcement in the paper—his name beside another’s. She pressed the clipping to her chest, tears soaking the ink, whispering the vow they once shared: “Forever.”
For her, forever remained. For him, it faded.
